As part of my writers geoup we were tasked with finding the title of our next piece by choosing the fourth book on the left, on our bookcase and opening it to page 150. Mine was a 1977 edition of Robert Carrier Entertaining. The sentence that caught my eye was "tossed green salads" my mind immediately singing the Fraizier theme tune " ... and scrambled eggs, their calling again!"
According to Mr Carrier the tossed green salad is simply any green leaves tossed in a dressing of olive oil and wine vinegar.
As holidays abroad became more accessible and popular in the 1970s so did more exotic cuisine and the accoutrements to serve them. Pictured is an oil and vinegar set c 1970. I imagine someone bringing it home from a holiday in Greece. An attempt to recreate the delicious food eaten on their two week break in the sun. With no ebay or amazon to purchase new culinary equipment, many prized possessions were brought back and treasured or given as gifts to loved ones. My house is full of these type of treasures either thrifted of brought on ebay. They now bring joy to me as I imagine their holiday abroad.
